First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Aug 07, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests a 4-month personalized digital program (PASS) to help people with obstructive sleep apnea start and continue using positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy. Sixty overweight, inactive adults newly diagnosed with sleep apnea will be randomly assigned to either the PASS program or a general hygiene program. The PASS includes motivational interviewing, a digital platform for tracking and education, and chat-based support. Researchers will measure how many participants start PAP therapy and how often they use it, along with changes in sleep, activity, and diet.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Personalized and Adaptive Sleep Support (PASS) program
What this could lead to
If it works, this could help more people with sleep apnea successfully use their breathing machines, improving sleep and health.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The program is behavioral, so its success depends on individual motivation.
