Could a simple cream stop skin cancer before it starts?

Summary

This study is testing whether a prescription cream called Imiquimod can prevent new basal cell skin cancers from forming on the face. It will involve 1,630 Veterans at high risk for this cancer, who will apply either the real cream or a placebo to their face nightly for 12 weeks. Researchers will then track the participants for three years to see if the cream reduces the number of new skin cancers.
