Can a simple nasal device boost mood and ease congestion?

NCT ID NCT06268730

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether using the SinuSonic device—a handheld tool that uses sound and gentle pressure to relieve nasal congestion—could also improve anxiety, depression, and overall well-being in adults with chronic stuffy nose. Sixteen participants used the device for 5 weeks and reported their symptoms. The trial was terminated early, so results are limited.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

SinuSonic device (acoustic vibration and oscillating expiratory pressure)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a non-drug way to ease anxiety and depression linked to chronic nasal congestion.

What could go wrong

This was a very small, terminated study with only 16 participants. Results may not be reliable or apply to everyone. The device is already sold over-the-counter, so any benefit is likely modest.
