Scientists search for blood clues behind sickle cell pain

NCT ID NCT03049475

Summary

This study aimed to understand what causes the sudden, severe pain attacks experienced by people with sickle cell disease. Researchers collected blood samples from 99 participants—both people with sickle cell and healthy volunteers—during pain attacks and between attacks. By analyzing these samples, they hoped to identify specific markers in the blood that could explain why these painful crises happen.
