First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looked at what happens in the blood of people with sickle cell disease during painful attacks. Researchers compared blood samples taken during a pain crisis to samples taken when participants were feeling well. The goal was to learn more about the causes of these painful episodes, not to test a new treatment. 99 adults with and without sickle cell disease took part.
