New nerve block may ease shoulder surgery pain without affecting breathing

Summary

This study tests a newer nerve block (cervical erector spinae plane block) against the standard one (interscalene block) for pain after shoulder arthroscopy. The standard block often causes temporary diaphragm paralysis, making breathing harder. The new block aims to provide similar pain relief with fewer breathing side effects. About 165 adults having elective shoulder surgery will be randomly assigned to one of the two blocks, and their pain levels and side effects will be tracked for 24 hours after surgery.
