Can simple exercises or TENS ease diabetic shoulder pain?
NCT ID NCT07747454
First seen Aug 05, 2026 · Last updated Aug 06, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial compares two non-drug approaches—isometric strengthening exercises and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)—to see which better relieves shoulder pain and improves movement in people with type 2 diabetes. Adults aged 40-65 with diabetes-related frozen shoulder will be assigned to one of the two treatments for six weeks. Researchers will measure changes in shoulder range of motion and pain intensity to determine which method offers greater benefit.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Isometric shoulder exercises and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)
- What this could lead to
- If effective, these approaches could offer simple, drug-free ways to ease shoulder pain and improve mobility in people with diabetes.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial, so results may not apply broadly. Exercises might be hard to do consistently, and TENS may not work for everyone.
