Could one IV dose be enough? new trial aims to cut hospital stays for kids with UTIs

NCT ID NCT04876131

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study compares two treatment plans for children with complicated urinary tract infections (UTIs). One group gets a single IV antibiotic dose followed by two days of oral antibiotics, while the other gets three daily IV doses. The goal is to see if the shorter IV course works just as well at clearing symptoms within 72 hours, which could mean fewer hospital stays and less discomfort for kids.
