Could less hormone therapy be enough for High-Risk prostate cancer?
NCT ID NCT05100472
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing whether a shorter course of hormone therapy (6 months instead of the usual longer duration) combined with targeted radiation can safely prevent high-risk prostate cancer from spreading. About 50 men with aggressive prostate cancer will receive hormone therapy, followed by brachytherapy and external beam radiation. The goal is to maintain cancer control while reducing side effects from hormones.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Androgen deprivation therapy (bicalutamide and leuprolide) plus brachytherapy and external beam radiation
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a way to treat high-risk prostate cancer with fewer hormone therapy side effects while still preventing the cancer from spreading.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase trial (50 people) with no control group, so results may not apply broadly. The shorter hormone course might be less effective at preventing recurrence.
