Could a shorter pill course tame chagas in young women?

NCT ID NCT03672487

First seen Apr 09, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tested whether a shorter, lower-dose course of benznidazole (30 days, 150 mg/day) works as well as the standard 60-day, higher-dose treatment for reducing the parasite that causes Chagas disease. The participants were women who had recently given birth and had Chagas but had not been treated before. The goal was to see if the shorter treatment could lower the amount of parasite in the blood just as effectively, with fewer side effects.
