Summary
This study compares two ways of doing a surgery called POEM for people with type II achalasia, a condition where the esophagus has trouble moving food into the stomach. The standard method uses a long tunnel under the lining of the esophagus, but this can cause bad acid reflux afterward. The new method uses a shorter tunnel and focuses the cut only at the tight muscle. The trial will enroll 636 adults and track how well each method relieves symptoms and how often it causes reflux.
