New combo therapy could boost survival in tough rectal cancers

Summary

This study tests a new approach for people with high-risk rectal cancer: a short course of radiation (5 days) followed by several weeks of chemotherapy before surgery. The goal is to see if this sequence helps more people stay cancer-free for longer compared to the standard treatment of longer radiation plus chemo. About 920 participants will take part in this phase 3 trial across multiple centers.
