Could a simple shoe insert ease chronic hip pain?

NCT ID NCT06891001

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding a neutral shoe insert to standard physical therapy helps people with long-term hip pain (greater trochanteric pain syndrome). About 36 adults with unilateral hip pain for over three months will be assigned to physical therapy plus a shoe insert on the affected side, a sham insert on both sides, or physical therapy alone. Researchers will measure pain, function, and movement at 12 weeks and 6 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

neutral shoe insert

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost addition to physical therapy for reducing hip pain and improving movement.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 36 participants, so results may not apply widely. The shoe insert may provide no extra benefit over physical therapy alone.
