Vaccine tested to stop shingles from coming back

NCT ID NCT04091451

Summary

This study tested whether a two-dose shingles vaccine could safely prevent a second painful shingles outbreak in adults aged 50 and older who had already experienced shingles. Over 1,400 participants received either the vaccine or a placebo shot to compare recurrence rates and side effects. The main goal was to see if the vaccine reduced new shingles cases and to check how the body's immune system responded.
