Shingles nerve pain linked to higher dementia risk in massive study
NCT ID NCT07399288
First seen Feb 14, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study analyzed health records of nearly 69,000 adults aged 40 and older to see if those who develop long-term nerve pain after shingles are more likely to get dementia. Researchers compared people with and without this nerve pain, matching them by other health factors. The goal was to understand if the pain itself increases dementia risk, not to test a treatment.
