First seen Feb 14, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study examined health records from over 68,000 adults aged 40 and older to see if nerve pain after shingles (postherpetic neuralgia) increases the risk of developing dementia. Researchers compared people with and without this nerve pain, matching them by other health factors. The goal was to understand if treating shingles nerve pain could help prevent dementia later in life.
