New immunotherapy combo aims to treat leukemia without chemo
NCT ID NCT06985485
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a sequence of two immunotherapy drugs, blinatumomab and inotuzumab ozogamicin, in people with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). It includes newly diagnosed patients who are older or too frail for intensive chemotherapy, as well as those whose cancer has returned or still shows signs of disease after treatment. The goal is to see if this drug combination can improve survival and reduce the chance of relapse, while avoiding traditional chemotherapy side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
blinatumomab and inotuzumab ozogamicin
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a chemotherapy-free immunotherapy option for B-ALL patients who cannot tolerate or decline intensive chemo, potentially improving survival and reducing relapse.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase (phase II) single-center trial with only 26 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The combination may cause serious side effects like cytokine release syndrome or infections.
