Scientists track hidden gut leaks in critical illness

NCT ID NCT03861325

Summary

This study aimed to understand how septic shock affects the gut. Researchers monitored 60 adult patients in intensive care to see if bacteria were leaking from their intestines into their bloodstream. They took blood and stool samples over seven days to measure markers of gut damage and bacterial movement, but did not test any new treatments.
