Scientists watch sepsis damage tiny vessels in real time
NCT ID NCT07404475
First seen Feb 16, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 26 times
Summary
This completed study looked at 30 adults with sepsis to understand how changes in tiny blood vessels (microcirculation) relate to blood clotting problems. Researchers used a special microscope to view blood vessels under the tongue and measured clotting factors. The goal was to see if patients with clotting issues had worse vessel damage. No treatments were given; this was purely an observation study.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors better understand how sepsis damages small blood vessels and causes clotting issues, potentially guiding future treatments.
What could go wrong
This is a small, observational study with only 30 participants. It does not test any treatment, so it cannot directly improve patient care. Results may not apply to all sepsis patients.
