Could a steroid cocktail save sepsis patients from organ failure?

NCT ID NCT04280497

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tests whether a combination of two steroids (hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone) can reduce death or long-term organ damage in adults with sepsis in the ICU. About 1,800 participants will receive either the steroids or a placebo, and researchers will track survival and organ function for up to 6 months. The goal is to find out which sepsis patients benefit most from this treatment.
