Could a cancer drug that blocks a key protein help kids with relapsed wilms tumor?
NCT ID NCT05985161
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase II trial is testing the drug selinexor in people with Wilms tumor, rhabdoid tumor, MPNST, or other solid tumors that have returned or not responded to treatment. Selinexor works by blocking a protein called XPO1, which is often overactive in these cancers. The study aims to see if the drug can shrink tumors or stop them from growing, and it is currently recruiting 45 participants aged 12 months and older.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- selinexor
- What this could lead to
- If successful, selinexor could offer a new treatment option for children and adults with hard-to-treat Wilms tumor and other rare solid tumors that have come back or not responded to standard therapy.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early phase II study with only 45 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Selinexor may cause side effects like nausea, fatigue, or low blood counts, and it is not yet proven to work for these cancers.
