Brain scans probe the fading self in dementia
NCT ID NCT04616287
Summary
This study aimed to understand how dementia with Lewy bodies affects a person's sense of self, including their personal memories and self-concept. Researchers compared 61 older adults with Lewy body dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or healthy aging using brain scans and memory tests. The goal was to see if changes in a specific brain area, the insula, are linked to these changes in self-awareness.
