First seen Apr 03, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tests a program called S.A.F.E. Firearm in up to 15 Illinois health centers. Doctors will talk with parents about safely storing firearms and offer a free cable lock during well-child visits. The goal is to see if this approach helps more families keep guns locked up and reduces the risk of child suicide. About 666 parents and clinic staff will take part.
