Massive study reveals how diabetes drugs stack up for heart safety

NCT ID NCT05214573

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study looked at over 386,000 adults with type 2 diabetes to compare four common second-line medications (GLP-1RAs, SGLT2is, DPP-4is, and sulfonylureas) for their effects on heart health and other outcomes. Researchers used real-world insurance data to see which drugs best prevented heart attacks, strokes, and other complications. They also asked patients which treatment outcomes mattered most to them, helping tailor future care to what patients value.
