School nurses to supervise asthma inhaler use in new trial
NCT ID NCT06796387
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether giving children a single inhaler for both daily control and quick symptom relief at school can reduce asthma attacks and emergency visits. About 330 children aged 6–12 with moderate-to-severe asthma will take part across Rochester City schools. School nurses will supervise daily use and provide extra doses as needed, with follow-up via telemedicine or in-person visits.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
single maintenance and reliever therapy (SMART) inhaler
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a practical way to manage children's asthma during school hours, reducing emergency visits and missed school days.
What could go wrong
This is a behavioral intervention study, not a new drug trial. Success depends on school nurse supervision and family follow-through, and results may not apply outside this school district.
