Blood enzyme may reveal hidden clues in schizoaffective disorder
NCT ID NCT07673718
First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study examines whether levels of a blood enzyme called α-N-acetylgalactosaminidase differ between people with schizoaffective disorder during acute episodes and those in remission, compared to healthy individuals. The goal is to better understand the biological processes behind the condition and explore if this enzyme could serve as a marker of disease activity. Researchers will also look at how enzyme levels relate to symptom severity and inflammation.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If α-N-acetylgalactosaminidase levels correlate with disease state, it could become a blood test to help track schizoaffective disorder activity.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early observational study, not a treatment trial. The enzyme may not reliably distinguish between phases or predict outcomes.
