New hope for liver cancer: radiation may rival surgery

NCT ID NCT07381660

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study compares two treatments for small liver cancer (up to 5 cm): surgery to remove the tumor versus a precise, non-invasive radiation therapy called SBRT. About 312 adults with a single small liver tumor will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. The goal is to see if SBRT can provide similar long-term survival with fewer side effects than surgery.
