Robot-Guided radiation aims to shrink kidney tumors with fewer side effects

NCT ID NCT07285538

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a highly precise type of radiation called SBRT for people with kidney cancer who cannot undergo surgery. The treatment uses a robotic system (CyberKnife) to deliver high-dose radiation directly to the tumor while sparing healthy tissue. Researchers will track 60 patients over 3 years to see if this approach reduces side effects and controls the cancer.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) using a CyberKnife robot

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a safer, non-surgical option to control kidney tumors with fewer side effects.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study (60 people) focused on safety, not yet proven to improve survival. Radiation may still cause side effects.
