Could a tape measure replace an x-ray scan for diagnosing frailty?

NCT ID NCT05869487

Summary

This study aims to see if measuring calf circumference with a simple tape measure is as good as a specialized X-ray scan for diagnosing sarcopenia (serious muscle loss) in hospitalized people aged 75 and older. Researchers will compare the two methods in 298 participants to check the tape measure's accuracy. The goal is to find a quicker, easier, and more accessible way to spot this condition, which increases the risk of falls and other health problems.
