Could same-day activation of cochlear implants speed up hearing recovery?
NCT ID NCT07681830
First seen Jul 02, 2026 ยท Last updated Jul 02, 2026
Summary
This study compares activating a cochlear implant on the day of surgery versus the usual two-week wait. About 100 adults receiving a cochlear implant will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups. Researchers will track how quickly the implant settings stabilize, hearing improvements, and any side effects to see if earlier activation is safe and beneficial.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Cochlear implant activation procedure
- What this could lead to
- If same-day activation works well, it could speed up hearing recovery and reduce the waiting time for people receiving cochlear implants.
- What could go wrong
- This is a single-center study with 100 adults, so results may not apply to everyone. Same-day activation might cause more discomfort or complications than waiting two weeks.
