Scottish study uses High-Tech scans to unlock secrets of heart valve disease

NCT ID NCT06047561

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This observational study in Scotland aims to understand what causes aortic stenosis to worsen and how the heart responds after valve replacement. About 300 participants with mild to severe aortic stenosis or a replacement valve will undergo regular heart scans and imaging over several years. The goal is to track disease processes like inflammation and scarring, not to test a new treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could reveal why aortic stenosis worsens and how to better monitor or predict disease progression after valve replacement.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not directly test a new therapy, and results may take years to translate into clinical practice.
