Spit, Don't swab: new study aims to make Kids' respiratory diagnosis Pain-Free

NCT ID NCT07350291

First seen Jan 23, 2026 · Last updated Jun 09, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tests whether a saliva sample can accurately diagnose respiratory infections in children under 2, replacing the standard but painful nasopharyngeal aspirate (nose swab). Researchers will compare results from both methods in 502 children to see if spit is just as reliable. If successful, this could make diagnosis less stressful for kids and families.
