Could magnetic pulses to the brain help mothers bond better?
NCT ID NCT06743724
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study investigates whether repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) can improve maternal care in mothers who score low on a caregiving scale. Participants receive either real or sham rTMS to a brain region linked to caregiving, while brain scans track changes. The goal is to see if this non-invasive technique can enhance nurturing behaviors and emotional responses.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS)
What this could lead to
If effective, rTMS could offer a non-drug treatment to help mothers with impaired caregiving abilities, potentially improving mother-child bonding.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 45 participants. The sham control group may show similar effects, and results may not apply to all mothers.
