Wearable patch could warn of deadly Post-Birth bleeding an hour before it happens
NCT ID NCT06655207
First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026
Summary
This trial tests a non-invasive wearable device called Oli, placed on the abdomen during labor, that aims to predict if a person is at higher risk of severe bleeding (postpartum hemorrhage) after giving birth. The device is designed to alert doctors at least one hour before delivery, allowing time to prepare. The study enrolls 1000 pregnant people planning a vaginal delivery and measures how well Oli predicts blood loss of 500 mL or more.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Oli wearable device
What this could lead to
If effective, Oli could give doctors a 1-hour advance warning of dangerous postpartum bleeding, potentially saving lives and reducing emergency interventions.
What could go wrong
This is a single-arm study with 1000 participants, so results may not apply to all birthing situations. The device's accuracy and real-world usefulness are still being tested.
