Magnetic pulses to the brain may boost memory in dementia patients

NCT ID NCT02621424

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tested whether a non-invasive treatment called repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) could improve memory and thinking in 32 veterans aged 55+ with mild cognitive impairment or early dementia. Participants received rTMS sessions, and researchers measured changes in verbal learning and naming ability right after treatment and again 4 months later. The goal was to see if this brain stimulation technique could ease symptoms of cognitive decline.
