Can a magnetic helmet slow Alzheimer's? new trial aims to find out

NCT ID NCT07324161

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a non-invasive magnetic brain stimulation technique (rTMS) can improve thinking and memory in people with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease. Researchers will also use brain scans to see if the treatment helps clear waste from the brain. The trial involves 66 participants who will receive either real or sham stimulation daily for two weeks, followed by weekly sessions for six months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) device

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a non-drug way to slow cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 66 participants. The treatment is not a cure, and benefits may be modest or not last long.
