Do RSV vaccines work as well in nursing homes? new study investigates
NCT ID NCT06077149
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed study looked at how well licensed RSV vaccines (Pfizer's Abrysvo or GSK's Arexvy) trigger an immune response in adults over 60 living in long-term care facilities compared to those living independently in the community. Researchers measured antibody levels before and 30 days after vaccination in 152 participants. The goal is to see if these vaccines protect vulnerable nursing home residents as effectively as they protect community-dwelling older adults.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
RSV vaccine (Pfizer's Abrysvo or GSK's Arexvy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that RSV vaccines protect older adults in nursing homes as well as they protect those living independently.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed Phase 4 study (152 participants) comparing immune responses, not preventing illness. Results may not apply to all older adults or predict real-world protection.
