Shoulder surgery upgrade: using your own biceps tendon to prevent Re-Tears

NCT ID NCT07657689

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This trial tests whether using a piece of the patient's own biceps tendon as a graft can improve rotator cuff repair and reduce the risk of re-tear. About 90 working-age adults with supraspinatus tears will be randomly assigned to either standard arthroscopic repair or repair with the biceps graft. Both groups will be followed for shoulder function, pain, and re-tear rates.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

autologous long head of biceps tendon graft

What this could lead to

If it works, this could reduce the chance of re-tear and improve shoulder function after rotator cuff surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 90 participants. The graft may not lower re-tear rates or improve outcomes compared to standard surgery.
