Which root canal tool hurts less? new study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07250399
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests two different dental file systems—EdgeOne Fire (reciprocating motion) and Jizai (rotary motion)—to see which causes less pain during and after root canal treatment in upper premolars with infected pulp. Fifty-six adults with moderate spontaneous pain will be randomly assigned to one of the two file types. Pain levels will be measured during the procedure and at several points up to one week afterward, along with any painkiller use. The goal is to find out if the way the file moves affects how much debris is pushed out and how much discomfort patients feel.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
EdgeOne Fire reciprocating file system and Jizai rotary file system
What this could lead to
If one file system clearly causes less pain, dentists may adopt it to make root canals more comfortable for patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (56 people) comparing two specific tools. Results may not apply to other teeth or file brands, and pain differences could be minor.
