Armpit robot surgery for thyroid: less scarring or just hype?
NCT ID NCT06693258
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two ways to remove the thyroid gland: standard open surgery (cut in the neck) and robotic surgery through the armpit. Researchers will look at pain, scar quality, voice recovery, and complications like low calcium or bleeding. About 100 adults having thyroid removal will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If robotic thyroidectomy proves better, it could offer patients less pain and better scar outcomes after thyroid surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage comparison study. Robotic surgery may not show clear advantages over standard methods and carries its own risks.
