Robotic surgery may replace chemo for testicular cancer

NCT ID NCT05345158

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether robotic surgery can be the first treatment for stage IIA/B testicular seminoma, instead of chemotherapy or radiation. The surgery removes lymph nodes in the abdomen using a robot. The goal is to see if it prevents cancer from coming back. The trial will enroll 25 men.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Robotic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (R-RPLND) using the DaVinci robotic system

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a less toxic, surgery-only option for early-stage testicular cancer, reducing the need for chemotherapy or radiation.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study with only 25 participants. The surgery may not control the cancer as well as standard treatments, and relapse remains a risk.
