First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a robotic dog named AIBO can improve emotional well-being and quality of life in children aged 8-15 with blood cancers who are undergoing a stem cell transplant. The children will interact with AIBO while isolated in the hospital for about 30 days. Researchers will measure changes in mood, emotional health, and overall quality of life using standard questionnaires.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
AIBO robotic dog
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a safe, non-drug way to reduce anxiety and loneliness in hospitalized children with cancer.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage study with only 28 participants. The robotic dog is not a treatment for the cancer itself, and results may not apply to all children.
