Swallow a robot camera instead of a tube? new trial tests less scary anaemia exam
NCT ID NCT07197424
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a robot-assisted capsule (a pill-sized camera) to examine the stomach and small bowel in people with iron deficiency anaemia whose cause hasn't been found by standard tests. The goal is to see if this less invasive method works as well as traditional upper endoscopy (a tube with a camera). 100 adults will swallow the capsule, and doctors will compare what it finds with previous endoscopy results.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
robot assisted magnetically controlled capsule endoscopy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a less invasive, more comfortable way to examine the upper gut and small bowel for causes of iron deficiency anaemia, potentially replacing standard endoscopy.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The capsule may miss some findings that standard endoscopy would catch.
