Could a shorter, Drug-Free antibiotic regimen beat the standard for heart valve infections?

Summary
This study compares two antibiotic treatments for a serious staph infection of artificial heart valves. The standard treatment includes a drug called rifampin, which can cause side effects and drug interactions. The study tests whether a regimen without rifampin works just as well at preventing death within 6 months. About 422 adults with this infection will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments.
