Simple phone calls may prevent second fractures in seniors
NCT ID NCT06455085
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a patient navigator—someone who contacts you after a fracture and connects you to a bone health specialist—can help older adults avoid future fractures. Over 2,600 people aged 50 and older who recently had a fragility fracture will be assigned to either the navigator program or just receive educational materials. The goal is to see if the navigator approach reduces the chance of another broken bone within two years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
patient navigator program (behavioral intervention)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost way to help older adults avoid another broken bone after a first fracture.
What could go wrong
This is a large trial, but it tests a behavioral program, not a drug. The effect may be small, and results may not apply to everyone.
