Breathe easy: simple breathing technique may tame high blood pressure
NCT ID NCT07664774
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a slow, rhythmic breathing technique called resonant breathing can help lower blood pressure, heart rate, and stress in adults with mild hypertension. Fifty adults aged 30-65 with stage I hypertension and no serious health issues practiced this breathing method. Researchers measured changes in blood pressure, heart rate, and perceived stress to see if this drug-free approach could be a helpful addition to managing hypertension.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
resonant breathing (a slow, rhythmic breathing technique)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help manage mild hypertension and reduce stress.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The technique may not work for people with more severe hypertension or those on blood pressure medications.
