NCT ID NCT05435781

First seen Mar 27, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looks at whether taking extra hydrocortisone during times of stress (like illness or emotional strain) can improve fatigue and daily well-being in people whose adrenal glands are underactive due to long-term prednisolone treatment for polymyalgia rheumatica or giant cell arteritis. About 250 adults aged 50 and older who are on a low, stable dose of prednisolone will be randomly assigned to receive either hydrocortisone or a placebo during stressful events. The main goal is to see if this approach helps reduce fatigue and other symptoms.
