First seen Dec 09, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tested whether giving an additional anesthetic nerve block after pancreatic surgery helps patients use fewer opioid painkillers. 136 adults having open pancreatic surgery for cancer received either one or two nerve blocks. The goal was to see if the extra block could reduce opioid prescriptions at discharge and lower the risk of dependence.
