Can a simple blood test improve treatment for a common cause of high blood pressure?
NCT ID NCT06108427
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new way to dose a common blood pressure medication (MRA) for people with primary aldosteronism, a condition where the body makes too much aldosterone. Doctors will use a blood test for renin, a hormone, to guide dosing. The goal is to see if this leads to better control and fewer side effects. About 58 adults with newly diagnosed primary aldosteronism will be randomly assigned to either renin-guided or standard care for 12 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRA)
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could make MRA treatment safer and more effective for people with primary aldosteronism, reducing side effects while controlling blood pressure.
What could go wrong
This is a small feasibility study, so results may not apply to everyone. The renin-guided method may not improve outcomes or could be harder to implement in routine care.
