Can remote monitoring replace the Dentist's chair for kids with special needs?

NCT ID NCT07413003

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will test whether using remote monitoring (like video calls or apps) to manage orthodontic aligner treatment works as well as traditional in-person visits for children aged 11-12 with mild intellectual disability. The main goal is to see if kids stick to their treatment plan better with one method over the other. A total of 120 participants will be randomly assigned to either remote or in-person care.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

orthodontic aligner treatment

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that remote monitoring is as effective as in-person visits for managing orthodontic treatment in children with mild intellectual disability, potentially reducing clinic visits.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (120 participants) and may not apply to all patients. Remote monitoring might not catch issues as well as in-person care, and adherence could be lower without direct supervision.
