Can checking blood pressure at home improve pregnancy outcomes?

NCT ID NCT07115199

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study will test whether having pregnant women with chronic hypertension measure their blood pressure at home and adjust medications remotely can lead to better outcomes than standard in-office checks. Fifty participants will be randomly assigned to remote monitoring or usual care. The goal is to see if this approach is feasible and might reduce complications like preterm birth or preeclampsia.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Remote patient monitoring (blood pressure self-measurement at home)

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could make blood pressure management during pregnancy more convenient and potentially reduce complications like preterm birth.

What could go wrong

This is a very small pilot study (50 participants) testing feasibility, not effectiveness. It may not show clear benefits, and home monitoring might miss some issues detected in clinic.
