Can a fitness tracker replace the Doctor's office for heart checks in cancer survivors?

NCT ID NCT03838627

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tested whether a WHOOP wrist monitor can reliably measure resting heart rate and heart rate variability in 34 adult survivors of Hodgkin lymphoma who had chest radiation. Participants wore the monitor at home and also had in-office measurements. The goal was to see if remote monitoring is feasible and agrees with standard clinic methods.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that remote heart monitoring is a practical way to track heart health in cancer survivors without frequent clinic visits.

What could go wrong

This is a small pilot study with only 34 participants, so results may not apply to all survivors. The wrist monitor may not match clinic measurements closely enough.
